Reno Trip!

Thu Jun 25, 2009, 8:16 PM
Okay, I've caught up on sleep and everything and I can almost think coherently now. I present to you:

THE TALE OF ME GOING TO RENO!

June 18
- had a 30 min. delay for our flight out to Chicago (we had to fly to Chicago and get on another flight to get to Reno)
- While in Chicago, I did eat a hot dog, and my inner Biker Mice From Mars fangirl smiled and nodded in approval.
- ... even though I was running down the hall to get to the next terminal where my next flight was while eating said hot dog.
- The planes were crowded, both going to Chicago and Reno, but I didn't mind. I like Southwest Airlines.
- Landed in Reno, then had a fun time getting the rental car (a Ford Fusion) and finding the hotel. I love grandma, but she doesn't listen to directions if she has any idea of where she's going. We did find the hotel (we stayed at the Sands Regency Hotel).
- I got sick later because I had woken up waaay earlier than before and all the stress and homesickness punched me in the gut. It was mostly just being tired. I haven't stopped since school ended in May.

June 19
- I got some sleep and did feel a lot better. :)
- Our adventure today was going to Virginia City. I got to see a lot of beautiful scenery while we drove up the mountains to get there.
- I loved Virginia City, it was so cool...all set up like it was in the Old West and stuff...even had the wooden sidewalk things that cowboys walked on and they used a lot of the old buildings.
- At one of the shops, a jewelry/silver store, I managed to buy mom a BEAUTIFUL silver and turquoise necklace at half price. Originally it was like $85 but I got it for $40 something odd dollars.
- I saw a gunfight show while I was there, it was kind of a parody of the old spaghetti westerns too. It was hilarious, and the Sheriff was hot...then again I have a weakness for handsome guys in cowboy outfits. Mmm...guys in cowboy outfits...
- I got to bowl that night at about 6 PM with a team from CA. They were all extremely nice, especially considering I hadn't bowled for a month. I bowled Doubles and Singles, and made my average 4 out of 6 times. The only thing that sucked is that even though back home we were told I had enough games to go out to Reno and be allowed to bowl (I was told I had to have at least 12...I had 18), according to them I didn't. I had to have 21 games. So I got scratched and I had to accept a 210 average...but it didn't matter to the team I subbed for so it worked out.
- Oh yeah, I also had to borrow a bowling ball, shoes, and a wrist brace from somewhere else since the people that were bringing my ball and gear out to Reno weren't there yet. v_v

June 20
- We met up with everyone who we usually travel and go to Nationals with. Some of them didn't come in until Saturday.
- Originally, we were going to go to Truckee, which has Donner Pass, the trail the Donner Party took and got stuck on, but there were really bad thunderstorms.
- Instead, we went to the National Auto Museum. I took a lot of pics and got to see a lot of cars, some including a cars that John Wayne, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, and James Dean owned (I only got pics of the Sammy Davis Jr. car and the Sinatra car though, I didn't have much space on my memory card for my camera). I admit the museum wasn't as awesome as the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit, but it was awesome enough...didn't take half the day to go through.
- Afterward, grandma and I relaxed in the hotel for a while and then we walked downtown and went to the Eldorado, the Silver Legacy, and Circus Circus. I have cards from each of them.

June 21
- Called dad and wished him a Happy Father's Day.
- Went out to Truckee since the weather had cleared.
- Went up Donner Pass...BEAUTIFUL scenery. I took a good deal of pics of Donner Lake and some of the things around it.
- We tried to find the Museum that had a walking tour of where the Donner Party camped and even where they chopped up and ate each other but by the time we realized where it was, we were headed back to Reno and we were all tired.
- We did make a detour to Lake Tahoe. It's HUGE. It's BEAUTIFUL. XD
- There was a 40 frame game the bowlers could play that night. I couldn't get in it because apparently you have to have 42 games...9_9. But I didn't care. There was a lot of stuff that happened and really ticked me off...but the PMS didn't exactly help either. I did manage to Open bowl at the lanes the 40 frame game was at so it helped relieve the stress and anger and general PMS-ing.
- Relaxed in the hotel room for the rest of the day. Grandma and I were just so angry and didn't want to deal with people we essentially told them "F*** OFF".

June 22
- Grandma and I took off without telling anyone and went to the casinos again (Eldorado, Circus Circus, Silver Legacy)
- Silver Legacy is AWESOME. It has this GIANT machine they used to drill for silver and stuff...and some of the parts were made in Pittsburgh!
- I was all set to bowl in the Team Event at 3 but then the team that wanted me to sub was suddenly like "Umm..no" once they found out that the 210 average that I had no choice but to take would bump them up into a different division for Brackets.
- ...... #@$&*(*&#%$$#%&^%$#@$#@$#^%$&^%$ <--is what I thought of that.
- did manage to relax though.

June 23rd
- Grandma and them had to bowl at 7:30 AM...to which my body said "Hell no you are not getting up at 5 AM to get ready and sit there forever" so I stayed and slept in at the hotel. I had a nice quiet little breakfast without the old ladies we traveled with pestering me about eating more. What the hell is up with old ladies and apparently not eating enough by their standards? They were all "You need to eat more" and I'm all "But I'm not a big eater! All I need is a couple pieces of toast to get going and not much else to keep me going." but apparently that doesn't sink in. Oh well. I went to a happy place.
- I JUST caught grandma and the two ladies we traveled with as they were leaving the bowling alley. I was like "great...I walk three blocks to get there then have to turn around and go back"...but oh well. I needed the walk.
- All grandma and I did was walk downtown and pick up souvenirs for everyone that we hadn't covered yet.
- Packed everything but the essentials.

June 24th
- Got up at the buttcrack of dawn (6 AM) and got ready for the airport. I was happy to manage to get a couple pieces of toast for breakfast. I was glad we had enough time to do that.
- Our flight to Chicago was delayed about 30 min. again due to a maintenance issue, but I didn't really care, as long as I was going home. Finally we boarded the plane but we had to land in Salt Lake City to let passengers off and on. On the bright side I did get to see the Great Salt Lake. I'd love to go visit one day.
- Got to Chicago but had to wait a few minutes because another plane was at our stall/concourse/whatever thing.
-Managed to get something to eat, then almost as soon as we were done eating --and we thought we had plenty of time--they were boarding our plane.
- ....what is it with that Chicago airport (not O'Hare..another airport there) and me having to run a marathon to get to my plane every time there?
- Did manage to get to the plane in time, however, and it was off to Pittsburgh
- Landed in Pittsburgh about 10:15 PM and mom and Pap were waiting for us. I was home by 11:30. YAAAY!

Overall, I had a ton of fun, but I did miss my lovely state West Virginia. I would like to go back one day...I'll get a chance in a few years anyways. Every few years they have Nationals in Reno again.

And the gambling...we'll say I put more money in the machines than I got back...but then again some of it went to food and souvenirs.

Um...yeah. I'm home now! I have the internet back. All is well. :)
